Nature Trails

More trees fell in the heavy windstorm on July 26
The Halloween Nor'easter brougt down more
A trail maintenance crew from Peaked Mountain worked
on the trails recently, so they're in somewhat better shape.
T
he hiking trails are open, but very rough

On June 1, a massive tornado struck our area
Trees were leveled on a 39-mile path from Springfield to Sturbridge
The KHM was directly in its way
Although none of our buildings were damaged, the trails were completely blocked by fallen trees

Winter Woods

Trail Map

About half of the 75 acres is open meadow & wetlands and half is woodland.

The combined length of the three trails is less than 2 miles

The trails are open year-round for hiking and for cross-country skiing & snow shoeing in winter

Trail maps are available in the parking lot

The grade of the trails is easy- to moderately strenuous

Take time to stop and observe animal activity and identify plants along the way

There is a good variety of mixed hardwood, coniferous trees and other woodland plants

Other plants are in bloom at various times of the year around the pond and meadows

The small granite quarry on the Christmas Fern Trail is now the only one left on the property. The depression left by the quarry is now a vernal pool that attracts salamanders and wood frogs in the springtime. They mate, lay eggs and mature before the temporary pool dries up.

NO MOTORIZED VEHICLES OR HUNTING ARE ALLOWED!!
